4. December 2021New arrival: AyurImmun!
This article began as an earlier product announcement for AyurImmun. We have since put it in context: it is neither a current availability update nor a recommendation to use the product to protect yourself against COVID-19 or other infections.
“Natural” does not mean “free from side effects”
We have removed the earlier blanket statement that the medicinal plants in the product had no side effects. Ayurvedic preparations can raise safety concerns and should not take the place of necessary medical care (NCCIH: Ayurveda and safety).
Caution is important with ashwagandha
The original announcement named ashwagandha as an ingredient. Germany’s Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) highlights possible health risks associated with such preparations and was unable to establish a safe intake level (BfR statement on ashwagandha). We do not draw a recommendation for families or a dosing schedule from that earlier announcement.
In particular, the BfR recommends that children, pregnant or breastfeeding people, and anyone with current or previous liver disease should not take ashwagandha preparations (BfR: groups of particular concern). The old blog post is not a suitable basis for choosing a product for your individual needs.
A better question before buying
If you are considering a preparation, take its current packaging and a list of your medicines to a doctor or pharmacist. Ask them to assess the specific product rather than assuming its name tells you whether it is useful for you. Earlier opening hours, stock information and dosage details are not presented here as current information.
