Eating the Ayurvedic way does not have to mean assigning every food to a particular type. A simpler place to start is to plan one meal thoughtfully, take your time eating it, and notice how you feel afterwards.
Your day does not need a perfect meal plan
You might enjoy warm porridge in the morning, vegetables with lentils at lunchtime, and soup in the evening. That is one way to shape your day, not a rule for everyone or a promise of any particular benefit.
If you work shifts or share meals with children, your routine may look different. Look for something that genuinely fits your life, rather than judging yourself against mealtimes you cannot realistically keep.
What does “digestive fire” mean?
Our introduction to Ayurveda explores traditional ideas such as Agni and Ama. “Digestive fire” is an Ayurvedic way of describing digestion. It is not a medical measurement and should not be used to diagnose yourself.
Variety, not a list of forbidden foods
A varied, mainly plant-based diet is in line with the German Nutrition Society’s recommendations for healthy adults. Cutting out entire food groups just in case is not part of our general advice for getting started.
Try making just one change for a week, perhaps taking a proper lunch break away from your screen. Make a short note of what worked for you. If symptoms persist, seek medical advice rather than collecting ever stricter rules about food.
